What Is Death?

No matter what our race, our belief or even where we live, every single one of us has wondered about the most important question that unifies us: What’s death? Throughout history, in many mythologies and theologies you find many explanations that define the nature of death. It ranges from being simply an end to an immediate life after death, and lately, well, waking up from a dream to be your true selves.

You see, at this point it doesn’t make a difference, the fact remains that death is the end of life, the life as we know it. Dying and afterlife are all shrouded in a lot of mystery, although we do not know the answer to afterlife we may be a step closer. According to a new study, when you die you will know it.

“Dying should be one of the great events of life.” — Alan Watts

I think it will be fair enough to say that death has just got a lot scarier. In a new study, the scientist discovered that people are aware that they are dead because their consciousness continues to be in the body even when the physical body stops showing all signs of life. It also means that, right after dying you may still hear noises in the surrounding for a short period of time, until a person’s consciousness totally leaves the body.

The research was made at Critical Care and Resuscitation Research at NYU Langone School of Medicine in New York City, by Director Dr. Sam Parnia and his team.

“Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die.” — Unknown

The study was conducted on people who suffered from cardiac arrest; those who were technically dead, but were later revived. It is one of the largest studies in it’s field to ever be done. The actual people who died and came back said, they were fully aware of what was going on, what people were saying and doing around them, while they were pronounced dead.

People’s statements were also confirmed by doctors or nurses who were present at the time. ‘A person is pronounced dead when the heart no longer beats and the blood flow to the brain is cut off.

“Technically, that’s how you get the time of death – it’s all based on the moment when the heart stops. Once that happens, blood no longer circulates to the brain, which means brain function halts almost instantaneously. You lose all your brain stem reflexes – your gag reflex, your pupil reflex, all that is gone” Dr Sam Parnia said..

In a previous study conducted in 2013 at the University of Michigan looked into electrical signals inside the brains of 9 Anaesthetized rats having an induced heart attack. They discovered an activity within the brain that were linked to a “Hyper Alerted-State” in the moment of clinical death. Giving further evidence to suggest that there’s a burst of renewed energy at the moment of death.

Dr Parnia also added;

“In the same way that a group of researchers might be studying the qualitative nature of the human experience of ‘love’, for instance, we’re trying to understand the exact features that people experience when they go through death, because we understand that this is going to reflect the universal experience we’re all going to have when we die.”

One thing is for sure, energy can neither be created nor destroyed. So as our life energy dies in the 3rd dimension it simply transforms to another type of energy. Consciousness in life as we know it may stop, but after death our consciousness moves on… To where? The answer we will eventually find out for ourselves.
